On January 11th, 2023, over 100 Afghan women – scholars, activists, and professionals successfully held a peaceful civic initiative in Kabul. Together, they distributed 3,000 items of warm clothing to men working on the streets in this harsh winter.
The purpose of this activity was to show to the world that Afghan women, who are no longer permitted by the authorities to work and study, are continuing to remain an active part of the society and play a meaningful role in reducing the effects of the humanitarian catastrophe on Afghans.
The women who led and implemented this initiative have the following messages:
Despite the Taliban’s imposed restrictions on the cultural, social, and economic lives of Afghan women, they will find ways to be active and to develop. They will also continue to help their fellow citizens in all possible ways.
Women want the Islamic Emirate authorities to understand and acknowledge that Afghan women are playing an amazing role in the development of the country, and they should not be prevented from continuing to play their role.
The international community must continue and expand their support to Afghan women so that they can continue their activism under the new circumstance.
The women held their campaign under the slogan of “love from two hearts” which referred to the need for men and women coming together in solving problems in Afghanistan.
