JOANNE PAYTON

A radical feminist from her early teens, Jo volunteered with IKWRO in 2005 after becoming increasingly concerned about ‘honour’ based violence. Through her experiences, she developed her perspectives upon these crimes, which she went on to explore through studying for a PhD  at Cardiff University. In 2019, she won a True Honour Awards Special Recognition for her Academic Contribution to End "Honour" Based Violence from IKWRO. A book based on her thesis entitled ‘Honor and the Political Economy of Marriage’ will be published by Rutgers University Press in early 2020.

Jo currently works for Deeyah Khan’s media companies Fuuse, researching documentaries and managing the website sister-hood, which publishes writing by women of Muslim heritage.
