THEIR STORIES AND NARRATIVES: VOICES OF AFRICAN WOMEN
RAISING THE VOICES AND NARRATIVES OF AFRICAN WOMEN AS WELL AS SUPPORTING THEIR LEADERSHIP
This panel will briefly reflect on the feminist “herstory” to challenge false narratives that feminism is a Western or European ideology that is often used to silence many African women’s voices and stories as well as negatively stereotyping many of them as lacking agency or being confrontational or aggressive.
The panellists will discuss in details, the neo colonialism and double standard unjust international policies that are maintaining power structures that marginalise and discriminate African women as well as provide an insight for the audience about the issues diaspora African women are tackling in their home countries and life in the UK.
This panel will be bringing “herstory” narratives of diaspora, refugee and immigrant African women who are raising their voices at UK national and international in:
The agency of women in Africa and the African diaspora
Ending support for repressive regimes
Ending the proliferation of small arms, light weapons and foreign military bases on African soil
Ending GBV and GBSV
Ending the exploitation of African natural resources by multinational corporations and the role this plays in fuelling armed conflict and the destruction of our environmental and ecosystems
Improving healthcare and education provision
Implementing legal frameworks for the rights and participation of women in the governance of Africa
Establishing National Consultations with civil society women’s organisations
