UNFILTERED AND UNCENSORED: FOCUSING ON SEX BUYERS IN THE PROSTITUTION DEBATE
Online communities for sex buyers are digital spaces for men who pay for sex where they review prostituted women and their experiences as purchasers in the sex industry. A worldwide phenomenon, the original online communities for sex buyers were invented in the United Kingdom. Through the use of Feminist Critical Discourse Analysis, I have previously explored these online communities for my Master’s Degree in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies and currently for my PhD in Gender and Violence. Who are the men who pay for sex? How do they construct their own sense of masculinity? What role do these online communities play in the sex trade and in patriarchy?
If the sex industry is about ‘choice’, then let’s analyse the choices of men who pay prostituted women for sex and then brag about it. The time has come for us to listen to sex buyers.
THE SEX TRADE IN GERMANY
She will talk about Netzwerk Ella, the organisation she founded.
Netzwerk Ella is a German group only for women who were in prostitution or still are. It is abolitionist and pro Nordic Model.
What do the women from Netzwerk Ella want, what do they do, how do they do it and why?
What is it like to be in legalized Prostitution in Germany, and what´d be the best for women in prostitution?
What do women in prostitution in Germany have to say about decriminalization, the police, human trafficking and the Nordic Model? And is there something about the Nordic Model we need to change, so it might work better?
There´s time for questions and discussion after the talk.
THE MYTH OF “LEGAL MAKES IT SAFE”
Germany as an example for the failed “harm reduction” approach:
Prevalence of violence against prostituted women in the German legalized and liberalized sex trade
Empirical data on the effects of the German prostitution law regarding violence
Findings of the Sex Industry Kills documentation project
