HELEN BISHOP

HELEN BISHOP

I became a feminist while working in Paris as an English teacher in 1972. I came out as a lesbian in 1975 and returned to Britain in 1976 knowing I wanted to be part of a lesbian collective. In July I went to the second meeting of the group wanting to set up a lesbian phone service, so was involved in the fundraising, planning and set up of London Lesbian Line in Sept 1977.  Answering the phones was always rewarding, you felt you had really given something, but at the same time it could also be difficult, upsetting, funny or sometimes just plain exasperating! I left in the early 80s, I wish I had stayed longer. I am so glad I had that experience.

Helen will be involved in the following FiLiA session:
Lesbian Line: 40 Years    (Sunday Afternoon)
