Working in the UK and Africa with women who experience violence, Maureen will discuss how poverty affects women recovering from abuse both here and across the world

About Maureen: Maureen’s goal is to raise awareness of gender-based violence particularly within BME and marginalised communities. Through Siyanda Development Trust, an African Diaspora organisation

she founded, she is developing a documentary highlighting compounding issues for those experiencing domestic violence such as drug and alcohol and its impact on women’s mental health wellbeing.

Maureen has a background in Mental Health Nursing and in social work. She has extensive experience of working with communities at local and global level. Recently she participated in the Commonwealth Meeting contributing to the Statement of the Commonwealth Women’s Forum that was presented and adopted by Commonwealth Heads of States.
