Susan Matthews is an academic who works on the history of ideas of sex, sexuality and gender. Recently she has worked on the origins (and consequences) of the idea of ‘gender identity’ and has published a chapter in each of the books edited by Brunskell-Evans and Moore on the idea of the transgender child. She writes for Transgender Trend and campaign for appropriate care for young people with gender dysphoria on the NHS.
