KAREN INGALA SMITH

I’m Chief Executive of nia, an East London charity providing services for women, girls and children who have been subjected sexual and domestic violence, including prostitution.

I have been recording and commemorating UK women killed by men since 2012 in a campaign called Counting Dead Women. I am co-founder of The Femicide Census in partnership with Clarissa O’Callaghan and Women’s Aid (England) supported by Freshfields LLP and Deloitte LLP. The census enables analysis of men’s fatal violence against women, providing valuable data with the aim of contributing to challenging impunity and state failure, and ultimately the reduction of the number of women killed by men.
