Dr Sasha Rakoff has been campaigning against the porn and sex industry and their normalising for nearly 15 years. In 2003, She set up the astonishingly successful pressure group, Object. Object played a leading role in getting the objectification of women finally into public debate; it changed laws - stopping strip joints being licensed like cafes and making it a criminal offence to buy sex from anyone who has been forced or coerced. It stopped ‘careers’ in prostitution being advertised in Job Centres and got lad’s mags off the bottom shelf (a move that ultimately lead to their demise).
In 2016, she has set up Not Buying It to further the work of Object. Not Buying It has been challenging the ASA over allowing often graphic ads for the porn and sex industry in public spaces like newspapers, in the process unearthing the fact that all Media Regulators are actually Public Bodies, legally bound to promote equality! The ASA is now reviewing its Public Body obligations .. Watch This Space!
