Who is FiLiA?

'FiLiA' means daughter; we are the daughters of the women who came before us and we fight so that our sisters and daughters may be free.

FiLiA is a Women-led Volunteer organisation and part of the Women’s Liberation Movement. We have charitable status for our work promoting Women’s human rights.

FiLiA’s vision is a world free from Patriarchy where all Women and Girls are Liberated.

FiLiA’s mission is to contribute to the Women’s Liberation Movement by:

  • Building Sisterhood and Solidarity (locally, nationally, globally)

  • Amplifying the Voices of Women (particularly those less often heard or purposefully silenced)

  • Defending Women’s Human Rights

 ANNUAL WOMEN’S RIGHTS CONFERENCE

Our volunteer team has organised a Feminist conference since 2013. Evolving quickly into a two-day international event, FiLiA reflects Women’s desire to gather; building and strengthening the Women’s Liberation Movement. FiLiA has platformed Women from 49 countries so far, with a particular focus on those less often heard or purposefully silenced. The FiLiA conference provides an opportunity to highlight the vast amount of work and activism being done by Women for Women locally, nationally and globally. In coming together, we contribute to building Feminist Sisterhood and Solidarity as well as growing the movement (62% of Women at FiLiA2019 said that it was their first FiLiA conference).

With our thanks to the volunteers who make the FiLiA conference happen (8,344 woman Hours in 2019) as well as all the speakers, artists, security, stallholders and attendees.

Podcasts & Blogs

I have just discovered your podcast, it is brilliant. It is teaching and holding me.
— 5* Podcast Review

FiLiA Amplifies the Voices of Women (particularly those less often heard or purposefully silenced) via our annual conference, podcasts, blogs and videos.

Our podcast features Women’s voices from all over the world including Russia, France, Saudi, Kenya, India and many others on the diverse array of topics that affect Women and Girls.  We publish weekly guest blogs to amplify the words of Women worldwide and share their lives and struggles with the Sisterhood.

FiLiA launched our Young Feminist page in collaboration with Radical Girlsss, a young women’s collective that evolved from the European Network of Migrant Women.

We thank all the Women who gift their time to make the FiLiA podcasts and blogs happen and will be continuing our work in this area.

FiLiArts

We believe that art can be a powerful force for change, a way to communicate which crosses linguistic and cultural barriers. We support Female artists and collectives that draw attention to issues affecting Women and Girls worldwide.

Our FiLiA charitable aims include promoting women artists, feminist and activist art, and giving voice to minority and disadvantaged women through art. We have curated six art exhibitions that have been featured at the conference, and built a network of more than 150 Female artists. Works showcased at the conference have also been exhibited at several London galleries, and we have also held film screenings, spoken word poetry nights, and productions of the Vagina Monologues. We have also helped support artists through our Emerging Female Artists Prize (coming back soon!).

More recently, we have been working on strengthening our arts partnerships with our Latin American Sisters. FiLiA, in partnership with Escalera Caracol, has organised an art exhibition dedicated to International Women’s Day and we hope you enjoy it!

Other Activities

FiLiA also takes part in other activities including public policy consultations in the UK, Feminist campaigns both in the UK and abroad etc subject to the capacity of our women-led volunteer team.

FiLiA is developing projects in areas that are of particular interest to us. We have been successful in six funding applications through 2020 with a focus on:

  • FiLiA Legacy Project

  • Young women and radical social reform

  • FiLiA and socialism

  • Celebrating 50th anniversary of the 1970 Women’s Liberation Conference

  • Revealing women’s lost history through events, exhibitions and webinars

  • FiLiA and anti-pornography / prostitution education exchange

We believe that the work of FiLiA contributes to building a global Sisterhood which is essential for the dismantling of patriarchy. We are enthusiastic about women's liberation and hope that you will join us in our revolutionary movement building efforts.

We look forward to working with you on one of our projects, connecting via our networks, seeing you at our next FiLiA Conference and beyond!
