Art is an integral part of our existence. Through art, our need to understand and to be understood is satisfied. Be it poetry, painting, television, movies, or even advertisements, art communicates to us constantly.

Because of this, women and the arts are especially close. In history, we were the weavers, the craftswomen, we took the raw material and turned it into something useful, beautiful. As time progressed we became subject, no longer creator. Our bodies laid bare, but our stories hidden away. But, we did create. We still create. Because to be woman, is to be creator.

FiLiA is dedicated to giving women a voice, particularly those less heard or silenced, and here at FiLiArts - that voice can sing in colour, in word, in media. Sang to all of us of our deepest struggles, loftiest victories, quietest cries and boldest shouts. May you find something here which sings to you.
