FiLiA STATEMENT: Letter to Leyla Guven
FiLiA STATEMENT: Letter to Leyla Guven
Dear Leyla,
We write to you from FiLiA with solidarity, admiration and hope for a positive outcome from your hunger strike.
Your dedication to the protection of your compatriots, your party, and of human rights and justice in Turkey is unsurpassed. You are not alone, and many are striking with you.
Your defence of peace and democracy is a global campaign, too. Through your actions, you are protecting and inspiring people you have never met who face oppression, marginalisation and false imprisonment within their own countries.
Your ‘Open Letter to the Women of the World’ was an important contribution to the Global Women’s Liberation Movement. We join you in asking that "All the women of the world need to be saying enough to fascism, enough to dictatorship!"
We commend your bravery and determination, and we hope you will soon be able to end your hunger strike and make a return to full health.
We call upon Erdogan to end the isolation against Abdullah Ocalan in response to your campaign. With Martin Dolzer, we call upon the European Union to act as an interlocutor on your behalf.
In peace, since peace is what you strike for,
Members of FiLiA
