GREENHAM AND WOMEN'S PEACE SONGS

One of the most memorable moments of the 2018 FiLiA conference was when 3 Women (Lepa, Rebecca, Paula) jumped up and burst into spontaneous song. I don’t have the words to describe the atmosphere at that moment - ‘electric’ doesn’t do it justice.

In Paula’s words:

‘I started singing the "We are the Witches" song in response to the closing poem [Granddaughters by Cari-Lee Miller] - and Rebecca happened to be in front of me - we hadn't realised - and since she wrote the words - she joined me and then Lepa heard us and recognised the song and came bounding across the hall

It was electrifying I agree - actual magic - totally synchronistic.

Doing flash mob spontaneous singing is a powerful tool.....

Rebecca and I have been part of several including in the House of Commons.’

FiLiA 2019 will be hosting a session on ‘Feminist Songs, Fireside Chants, Songs of Peace and Protest’ - do come along (I’m hoping that some of the songs learned may get an airing at the evening party!!)

Below is a picture of the 3 incredible activists, all of whom contribute so much to the Movement.

Also a link to the words of many Greenham and Women’s Peace songs. Enjoy.

With thanks to our Sisters who wrote and performed these songs. Included in here are the lyrics of the Greenham Witches Song, which a number of Women burst into song with at the FiLiA 2018 Conference - a memorable moment indeed.
